The Hyphen is for kids aged 9-12 who love stories, reading, and getting real mail.

Yes. Simply enter the recipient's name and address at checkout.
The envelope will arrive addressed to them.

No. The Hyphen is for any child who loves stories and cities, whether they live in Toronto or have never been. The specificity of Toronto is the point. You do not need to be from a place to love it.

Yes. The Hyphen ships within Canada, as well as to the United States, and internationally. Postage is included in the subscription price.

Monthly subscriptions are $17 CAD for Canadian subscribers,
$21 CAD for US subscribers, and $25 CAD for international subscribers. Postage is included in the subscription price.

The Hyphen is sent via standard lettermail, which means there is no tracking number nor delivery confirmation. Based on where you are located, standard lettermail delivery times apply.

Every issue is mailed by the 7th of the month. Delivery follows standard Canada Post lettermail timelines; typically 2 to 4 business days within Canada, 4 to 7 business days to the United States, and longer for international destinations. We do not offer expedited shipping.

We typically wait until the end of the month to allow time for any returned envelopes. We'll resend your envelope once we've confirmed it hasn't been returned to us.

Good to know: Envelopes ship by the 7th of each month. To receive that month's envelope, subscribe by the 15th of the previous month. For example:

• Subscribe by June 15th → July envelope.

• Subscribe June 16th or later → August envelope.
